Penang, 2 December 2021 - NETHICS is bringing you its very own digital art competition, ArtSpace, this coming 8 December 2021. NETHICS is an online social cause campaign that is organised by the Persuasive Communication final year students of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Its main focuses are to advocate the right social media etiquette, nurture a practice of professional personal branding online and in curbing cyber harassment issues among youth. ArtSpace aims to create awareness on the issues of cyber harassment and poor social media etiquette through art and creative expression. Moreover, participants stand a chance to win prizes worth up to RM500!
Cyber harassment is becoming an increasingly evident problem among Malaysian youth. Approximately 52.6% of youth have experienced some form of cyber harassment. It is clear that this issue has a direct correlation to the lack of awareness surrounding social media etiquette. Due to these alarming statistics, the NETHICS team has taken it upon themselves to organise ArtSpace as a means to educate Malaysian youth on these important issues.
As the NETHICS campaign is targeted towards the youth of Malaysia, ArtSpace will be open to those aged 15 to 30 years old and residing in Malaysia. There will be a participation fee of RM15 to ensure that NETHICS is able to cater to the participants’ needs to the best of our ability. Participants can register via scanning the QR code in the poster below or visiting https://nethicsusm.wixsite.com/nethicsusm/artspace-competition. Entries will be accepted from 8th of December 2021 to 8th of January 2022.
The theme of ArtSpace is ‘Internet Safe Space’. Participants will be required to design creatively on a blank template which will be prepared by the NETHICS team. They are given the freedom to design this template based on their own interpretation of the theme.
Balqis Mohamed Ismail, Vice Project Director of NETHICS, stated that, “The design should evoke a strong sense of proper social media etiquette in the hope of making the internet a safe place for all”. Furthermore, participants will also be required to write a brief description
of 100 words to explain their design. The entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges, all of whom have professional experience in the field of communication, art and design.
That being said, NETHICS welcomes all youths residing in Malaysia to participate in ArtSpace competition. This is YOUR chance to play a part in ensuring a safer internet experience for all.
